The key here is to buy a house that you can afford. Remember, it’s not a million little things that determine whether you have money, it’s a handful of big things: the house, the car, and the student loans. Get these three things right, and you won’t have to worry about the little things. The primary way people screw this up is by getting too big of a house.

The primary way that people end up with too big of a house is because it turns into an emotional decision; they fall in love with the house. Pay no more than 25% of your income on housing-related expenses, and only get a house if you can afford it with a 15-year mortgage, whether you end up getting a 15-year mortgage or not. That’s the best advice I can give.

I truly want everyone who reads this book to one day be able to live in a giant mansion—you deserve it. Everyone should one day have the experience of living in a giant house. But baby steps. You will get there over time, if you’re smart.
